Alcuin J. "Al" Evans

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 21, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church for Alcuin John Evans, age 83, of St. Cloud, who died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at St. Benedict’s Senior Community. Entombment will be in the Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum, St. Cloud. Reverend Greg Lieser will be the celebrant. Friends may call from 10-11 AM on Monday, April 21, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

Al was born on June 24, 1930 at Farming, MN the son of John and Louise (Klassen) Evans. He married Lorretta C. Opatz on September 24, 1953 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in St. Wendel. Al and Loretta were married for 52 years; together they raised 6 children. Al worked for 35 years at Champion Paper Mill where he was a Stock Prep Operator. He also served in the United States Marine Corps from August 29, 1951 to August 28, 1953. He obtained the rank of PFC 2 while serving at a Marine Corp base at San Diego, CA.

He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Nothing was more important. He always had an immaculate lawn, loved to take the kids fishing, treasured the trips to the casino and going on their many road trips.

Al was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Eagles Aerie #622 both of St. Cloud, and American Legion Silver Star Post 428 of Waite Park.

He is survived by his children: Dave (Mary) of St. Cloud, Sue (Tim) Ressemann of Avon, Dan (Mary) of St. Cloud, Sandy Pattrin and Sherry Evans both of Wayzata, Shelly Evans of White Bear Lake; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one brother: Leander of Mora, MN and one sister Viola Baggenstoss of Albany, MN.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his wife Lorretta on December 11, 2005 and five brothers.
