Arleen E. Poepping

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph, for Arleen E. Poepping, age 79, of St. Joseph who passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 at her home in St. Joseph. Reverend Jerome Tupa, OSB will officiate. Burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud.

 Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday and after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday all at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Parish prayers will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home in St. Joseph.

Arleen was born on July 8, 1934 in Cold Spring, Minnesota to Leo and Anna (Thomas) Gill. She married Walter Schmitz on February 25, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Arleen was a homemaker all her life as well as working at Shopko for over 20 years. She married Alverne “Pepper” Poepping on July 14, 1984 at Immaculate Catholic Church in Rockville. Arleen was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph, the Heartland Polka Swingers, and the Independent Order of Foresters.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery, casino trips, reading books, and baking. Arleen especially loved the time spent with family and friends.

Arleen is survived by her husband, Al “Pepper”; children, Verena "Reene" (Tim) Faber-Wiltsey of Alexandria, Kenneth (Mabel) Schmitz of St. Augusta, Judith (John) Smith of Sauk Rapids, and Dwayne (Cindy) Schmitz of Hurricane, Utah; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Walter Schmitz in 1981; brother, Elmer Gill in 2010; and son-in-law, Kenneth Faber in 1993.
