Bernard H. "Bernie" Schloemer

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Bernard H. “Bernie” Schloemer, age 71, of St. Joseph will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Bernie passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Assumption Home in Cold Spring. Reverend Jerome Tupa, OSB will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and after 9:30 a.m. on Friday both at Heritage Hall Parish Center. Parish prayers will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at Heritage Hall. Arrangements are with Daniel Funeral Home, St. Joseph.
Bernie was born on April 17, 1945 in St. Cloud to the late Albert and Vera (Hess) Schloemer. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School and St. Cloud Technical High School in 1963. He entered the US Navy in 1963 serving as a Seabee with two terms during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1967. He attended St. Cloud Vo-Tech for two years earning a journeyman’s certificate in Carpentry. Bernie married Elizabeth “Betty” Hollermann on August 8, 1970 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. He worked as a home builder for Avon Lumber and later in commercial construction and ended his working career as a bidder/estimator for Concrete Inc. in St. Cloud. Bernie was a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s Parish, a longtime member of the St. Joseph Lions Club, the St. Joseph American Legion Post #328 and the Knights of Columbus Council #7057. He also served 12 years on the St. Joseph Township Board.
Bernie will be remembered as an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved to spend time with his grandchildren teaching them skills they could use later in life. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman who loved birdwatching. He also enjoyed woodworking and helping Betty with fabric cutting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 ½ years, Betty; daughters, Shelley (Steve) Schlichting of St. Stephen, Lori (Fred) Loehrer of Duelm; five grandchildren, Nicoli, Alex, Brody, Kayla and Austin; two great granddaughters, Emmah and Miley; sister-in-law, Karen Schloemer of Baxter; and sisters, Mary (Jack) Crane of Meridian, Idaho, Sharon (John) Pauly of Bloomington, Barb (Ed) Gysler of Savage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry; and sister, Judie Lauer.
Memorials are preferred to St. Croix Hospice, the Lions Sight First, St. Joseph Food Shelf, St. Benedict’s Monastery or St. Joseph’s Church Organ Fund.
