Dennis Richard Dullinger, age 55, passed away on November 3, 2017 in Alexandria, VA. He was born on April 22, 1962 in St. Cloud, MN to Benedict and Kathryn (Mergen) Dullinger as the youngest of six children.
Dennis attended the University of Minnesota, the institution from which he received both his Bachelor of Science (with distinction) in horticulture and his Juris Doctorate (cum laude) degrees. He spent his career as an attorney, compliance risk manager, and business strategist in financial services at Wolters Kluwer Financial Services and Wells Fargo & Company. The epicenter of Dennis’ life was his faith, family and friends, but his true passion was to be outdoors enjoying nature, planting trees, tending his garden, biking, hiking or running.
Dennis was the devoted husband of Lori (Anderson) Sommerfield of Alexandria, VA, and the beloved father of two children: Kathryn A. (Philip) McLaughlin of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Lydia G. Dullinger of Hollywood, California. He is survived by four siblings: JoAnn (Jerry) Lorenzini, Lois (Jim) Gebhardt, Michael Dullinger, and David Dullinger. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and sibling Gary Dullinger.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. John’s Abbey in Collegeville, MN. Interment will follow immediately afterward. A wake will be held on Friday, December 1 from 4-7 p.m. at Daniel Funeral Home, 1010 North Second Street, St. Cloud, MN 56303. There will be no visitation on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any gifts be directed to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska, MN 55318 (Attn: Dennis Dullinger Memorial Fund) or www.arboretum.umn.edu.
