Donald E. Hassis

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in St. Joseph for Donald E. Hassis, age 78 of St. Cloud who passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014 at the Country Manor Health Care Center in Sartell. Reverend Dwaine Bruns will officiate. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph and after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
Don was born January 10, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Erick and Evelyn (Halvarson) Hassis. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. Don married Marilyn A. Hapke on August 31, 1957 at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. He started his working career in sales for Taystee Bread in Minneapolis; he continued working in sales for Aslesen’s Food Service. Don retired from Sam’s Club in 1998 and continued on a part-time basis. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church.
Don was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed wintering in Texas, surf fishing in the Gulf and woodworking. Don especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Don is survived by his wife Marilyn; three daughters, Terri (Chris) Longley of Aliso Viejo, California, Karen Lee of Glen Allen, Virginia and Janis (Troy) Buchheit of St. Cloud; six grandchildren, Brent, Briana, Courtney, Cameron, Lindsey and Cody; three great grandchildren, Lily, Maddox and Max; three sisters, Karen Swanson of Minneapolis, Jenny Ann Cowette of Minneapolis and Sherry Lee of Wayzata; one brother, Ande of Ramsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Rick and Karl.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
