John was born on October 16, 1926 to John and Mary (Kotschevar) Stock in St. Joseph, Minnesota. He graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School in 1944. After high school, John was drafted into the United States Army and Honorably Served his country during WWII in a medical clinic in San Francisco, CA treating prisoners of war. Upon completion of his service, John attended St. Cloud State University for two years before transferring to the Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL, graduating as a Doctor of Optometry in 1950. He began his first optometric practice in Elbow Lake in 1951 under the name Dr. J.B. Stock Optometry. In 1956, he moved to St. Cloud and continued his practice, located in the Lahr Building downtown. Later, he moved his office to the Honer Complex in Waite Park, renaming his practice to Park Vision Clinic. John was united in marriage to Lucille Ruegemer on June 27, 1959 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. They were married for 58 years. He was a member of the American Optometric Association, the Minnesota Optometric Association, the St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622, the Crosier Apostolate, and St. Peter’s Catholic Church, singing in their choir for many years. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus St. Cloud Bishop Zardetti Council #5548 and served as president of the Granite City Archery Club. He served the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master in Elbow Lake, MN and as a District Commissioner in St. Cloud.

John was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who cherished spending time with his family and friends. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and always brought a smile to his face whenever they came to visit. He was extremely proud of them and their accomplishments. We all enjoyed his entertaining dry sense of humor. He was a jack of all trades with many hobbies and interests. He was an accomplished wood and metal worker, creating many home furnishings, toys, and trailers. John combined his love of wood working with his love of archery, creating many of his own bows and arrows. Along with his wife, they started Lu-Jon Archery fabricating bows and arrows as a hobby. John also loved to go golfing. He insisted on always walking the course for exercise and also enjoyed going to the driving range. He also enjoyed fishing, doing crossword puzzles and singing. He had a rich baritone voice, and loved to sing along with his wife and daughters on the piano. His favorite songs to sing were Ave Maria, Panis Angelicus and the Anniversary Waltz. John loved being in nature and, in his retirement, spending time at his son’s land, doing projects in the shop. He was a wonderful teacher, passing on his various interests, knowledge and passions to his children. He was an avid history buff, and enjoyed reading Westerns by Louis L’Amour.

He is survived by his wife, devoted partner and the love of his life, Lucille; children, Judy (Dale) Blommel, of St. Cloud, Barb (Cletus) Koenig, of Clearwater, and Jason (Tracy) of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Thomas, James, John and Kathryn Blommel, Bethany (Brady) Blonigen, Mariah and Ryan Koenig,  and Jacob Stock; brother, Rembert (Eunice) Stock, of Brooklyn Park and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Joseph, Rita Casey, Leo, Raymond, Suzanne, Alan, and Marian Olmscheid.
