Francis J. "Butch" Herian

December 27, 1927 – May 5, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Francis J. “Butch” Herian, age 88, of St. Cloud. Butch passed away May 5, 2016 at St. Benedict’s Senior Community in St. Cloud. Reverend Lauren Virnig will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday at the church. A luncheon will be served after the service. Entombment will take place in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls at 3 p.m. with full military honors.
Butch was born December 27, 1927 in Madison, MN to Frank and Johanna (Richard) Herian. He was an U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1947 until his retirement in 1987 as Chief Warrant Officer (W4). He married Margaret “Meg” Nathe on September 6, 1961 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Madison. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the American Legion and V.F.W.
Butch will be remembered as an avid Twins and Vikings fan, his enjoyment of woodworking and his love of spending time with his grandchildren.
Butch is survived by his wife Meg, children Jim (Jane) of Moorhead, Tom (Yvette) of St. Michael, Karen (Randy) Piechowski of Sauk Rapids and Tim (Beth) of Sartell, grandchildren Andrew (Amy) Herian, Taylor (Bryce) Jorgenson, Corey Herian and Mitchel Herian; Jessica, Caleb, Grace and Lily Piechowski; Riley, Nolan and Stella Herian, great grandson Carson Herian; siblings: Joan Bleyhl, Jerome, and Mary Ann Moen.
Preceding him in death were his parents, infant sons Francis and Jeffery, siblings Rita Reinertson and Eugene Herian.
