George W. Aleshire

April 10, 1936 – November 24, 2014

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 29, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park for George W. Aleshire, age 78 of Waite Park who passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Reverend Mark Innocenti will officiate. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery with military honors provided by the Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday and after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud. Parish prayers will be at 4:40 p.m. followed by the Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428 at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.
George was born April 10, 1936 in Eden Valley, Minnesota to Burton and Rose (Marx) Aleshire. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War. George was employed by the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 1960 until his retirement in 1991. He coached football and baseball at St. Joseph’s School in Waite Park for over 40 years. He coached St. Cloud Apollo to its first State Championship in bowling. George was a member of the Central Minnesota Umpires Association and was elected into the Minnesota Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982. George volunteered at St. Cloud Hospital Hospice and Caritas. He was a member of the Senior Citizens, Koinonia, St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622, St. Cloud Veterans of Foreign Wars Granite Post #428, member and past Commander of the Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428 and St. Joseph’s Parish where he served as an usher, lector, Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir.
George enjoyed hunting, playing cribbage, fishing, bowling, playing Santa for over 30 years and he especially enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
George is survived by his sons, James (Shannon) of Waite Park, Chris (Leah) of St. Cloud and William of St. Cloud; five grandchildren, Tanner, Breanna, Riley, Chase and Logan; and brother, John of Oakdale.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Rosella Burley, Donna Hemmer and Carol Steiner.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
