Gerald P. "Gerry" Hemshrot

January 9, 1945 – August 24, 2015

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2015 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud for Gerald P. “Gerry” Hemshrot, age 70, of Sartell. Gerry passed away Monday, August 24 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud with full military honors.

Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 30 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 12 noon on Monday at the church.

Gerry was born January 9, 1945 in Rochester, MN to Arnold and Gladys (Turner) Hemshrot. He was raised by his grandparents Harley and Myrtle Turner. After his 17th birthday, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and served with Special Operations in Korea, Vietnam and Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1965. Upon his return, Gerry was self-employed in many lines of work which included realtor, bar owner and a trucking business. He married Eileen (Feld) Cook on October 3, 1998. Gerry was a member of American Legion Post 76, Disabled American Veterans #9, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 290 and St. Cloud Eagles Aerie 622.

Gerry was also involved with the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, International Wolf Center in Ely, Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul, Great Lakes National Historical Shipwreck Mission in Paradise, MI, the Gospel Mission in Minneapolis and the Arbor Foundation.

Gerry is survived by his wife Eileen of Sartell; daughters Dawn Hemshrot of Phoenix, AZ and Jerri (Scott) Fiscus of St. Louis, MO, stepdaughter Neshaw (Chad) Houg of St. Joseph; 5 grandchildren: Crystal, Karly, Brittnee, Alexis and Skye; 3 step grandchildren: Shawnda, Dylan and Owen; 3 great grandchildren Nova, Nayeli and Skye; sister Shirley Roselle of Mesa, AZ, brother Gene (Alva) Hemshrot of Milford, DE and half-sister Cheryl (Jerry) Abram of Safford, AZ. He is also survived by his best friend Nelson Waddell “Waddie” whom he met in Germany during the service and together travelled Europe.

Preceding him in death were his parents and grandparents, sisters Norma, Phyllis and Carol.
