Harold "Harry" A. Dinndorf

June 25, 1927 – June 14, 2016

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Harold Alex Dinndorf, age 88, of St. Cloud. Harry passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, MN. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Entombment will take place in the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Little Falls on Thursday, June 30, 2016.

 

Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church on Wednesday, June 29, 2016. St. John Cantius Parish Prayers will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Daniel Funeral Home.

Harry was born June 25, 1927 in St. Cloud, MN the son of Ludwig Dominic and Clara Mary (Brandtner) Dinndorf. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served for two years on a destroyer escort in the Pacific. On his return he went into business with his dad and his brother Louie. On May 26, 1951 he married Adeline Clara Thelen at Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Cloud. He lived all his life in St. Cloud and operated L.D. Dinndorf & Sons’ Painting and Wallpapering with his brother and later his two sons until he retired in 1991. Harry spent many weekends with Addie and the family at their lot on Leech Lake fishing, camping, swimming, and relaxing with the Bill Bach family. He loved pheasant hunting and spent many fall weekends in the fields with friends and relatives and his sons Keith and Rog. Harry was a member of St. John Cantius Catholic Church where he was a trustee, the St. Cloud Musician’s Union – Local 536, the Local Painter’s Union, the St. Cloud Municipal Band (64 years) and the VFW.

Harry is survived by his children Diane (Joseph) Friebe of Two Harbors, Brenda (David) Efteland of Eagan, Jane Ann (Mark) Hollenhorst of St. Cloud, Karen Dinndorf of St. Cloud, Mary Cheryl Opatz of St. Cloud, Keith Dinndorf of Sartell, Roger Dinndorf of St. Cloud and Claudia Dinndorf of Waite Park; 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Addie on October 2, 2011; grandchildren Sarah Friebe and Benjamin Efteland; four sisters and one brother: Katie (Earl) Blommer, Sr. Mary Ellen Dinndorf, Flossie Dinndorf, Louie (Joyce) Dinndorf and Mary Ann (Gene) Maiers.

His family would like to thank all the staff at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, MN for their care of Dad these last seven and a half years. Special thanks to Molly, Linda, Jess and Marie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mother of Mercy Nursing Home (230 Church St., Albany, MN 56307) or the St. Cloud Municipal Band (SCMB, 2141 Tamarack Dr., St. Cloud, MN 56301).
