Harold Lawrence Tisdell was born on October 8, 1923 on the Tisdell family farm outside of Morton in Birch Cooley Township to Edward and Charlotte (Neuens) Tisdell. He graduated from Morton High School in 1941. He served in the Navy from 1945-46 on the USS Apache until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He achieved the rank of Seaman First Class. Upon discharge from the service, he lived and worked in Los Angeles, California until 1948. He then returned to Morton to join in partnership with his brother Eugene in the operations of the family farm.

On June 30, 1956, he was united in marriage to Shirley Mae Morrow. Together, they had four children; Mary Lee, Linda Kay, Mary Sue and Timothy James. Harold retired from farming in 1980. After retirement, he and Shirley spent summers in a cabin on Lake Koronis outside of Paynesville and winters in Harlingen, Texas, until they moved permanently to a lake home on Lake Koronis in 1996.

Harold served as a Trustee for St. John’s Catholic Church in Morton and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served as Secretary for the Morton Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Following retirement, he became an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Koronis Hills Country Club. His last round of golf was on his 91st birthday this October. In his later years he enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles and completing the daily Jumble Puzzles. He was a wonderful husband, dad and grandfather, with a quiet sense of humor and a calming influence on those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Paynesville; children, Linda (Dan) Baun of Marshall, Mary (Brian) Heinis of St. Anthony Village; grandchildren Lindsay and Darren Baun, Jacalyn and Derek Heinis; siblings, Eugene (Marilyn) Tisdell, Geraldine (Robert) Simmons; sister-in-law, Phyllis Cole; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Blessed be his memory.

A special thank you to Rice Hospice and Koronis Manor for their loving care.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Uncle Harold, Aunt Shirley, Linda and Mary. Many fond memories (too few actually) of summer trips to the farm “way out west” which enabled Paul and myself to experience “cowboy” life! Wish I had been able to play some little round ball with him! Hopefully in the next life! Take care and love to all!

Thinking of Shirley, Mary, and Linda and his grandchildren. Harold was a bright spot in their world. Always cool, calm, sharp and fun..such a pleasure to be with.

Harold was a wonderful man who will be deeply missed. Many fond memories of his ever-ready smile and infectious laugh, and of his warm hospitality at the farm and lake. Our best wishes at this difficult time to Shirley, Linda, Mary and the entire family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you this week! May you be comforted by the Lord’s Peace that passes understanding.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Blessed be Harold’s memory.
