James B. "Diz" Gillespie

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud for James B. “Diz” Gillespie, age 71, of St. Cloud who passed away peacefully at his home, with family by his side, on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Private interment will take place at Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

James was born June 2, 1946 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Bernard and Helen (Dahlstrom) Gillespie. He was a graduate of St. Thomas University, where he was a proud member of the football team. James married Lori Gadbois on March 15, 1991 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. James owned and operated the Press Bar & Parlor in St. Cloud for over 40 years.

James’ greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving daughters; Caitlin Jean of New York, New York, Marissa Cecilia (Aaron) Haakonson of Sauk Rapids; sisters and brothers, Margaret “Meg” Gillespie, CSJ, of Bloomington, Patricia (Gordon) Kirk, Dallas, Texas, John (Linda) Gillespie, Flower Mound, Texas, Michael (Marvin Taylor) Gillespie, South Orange, New Jersey.

James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lori in 2005; and brother, Vincent Gillespie.
