A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud for Joan Christenson, age 90, of St. Joseph who passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at St. Benedicts Senior Community in St. Cloud. Reverend Chad Peterson will officiate. Entombment will take place at North Star Cemetery in St. Cloud.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
Joan was born on April 11, 1926 in Lamberton, Minnesota to Albert and Louise (Heydlaff) Albertson. She was raised on the family farm and was married to Vernon Christenson. They moved to St. Paul then to St. Cloud. They owned and operated Eddy’s Drive In, and in 1961 received the right to franchise Kentucky Fried Chicken. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Joan enjoyed fishing, traveling the world, skiing, flying, and golfing. She especially treasured all the time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Brian Christenson of St. Joseph, Marilyn (Kim) Kryzenski of St. Cloud, and Susan (Milton) Schmidt of St. Cloud; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Lucille Clark; many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters and brothers, Violet, Myrtle, Jean, Archie, Kermit, Lowell, Earl, Orland, and Orville.

Oh, the stories I could tell about my Aunt Joan.
My favorite is the time she came west to backpack for a week in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area of Washington State. We said she needed to be able to hike ten miles a day with a backpack. She trained hard and could RUN ten miles with her pack. Joan was in her 60’s then and we loved having her with us every minute.
Then there was the ski trip to Sun Valley and the incident with Willy Nelson. Something was always happening when Joan was with us.
Remember my mom, Lucille, said she “raised the twins and that is why they turned out so well”.
Please know grieve with you for this special person.
Joan may you rest in peace. I have so many great memories of working for and with you at KFC in Albany. We could always hear you open that back door to make your announcement you were there. Thank you for for such a great time in my life working for you.
