One of the blessings of parish ministry are the relationships you get to have with some very special people – John and Joan were such people. I am truly blessed to have known John! He invited me, a young pastor, to join their “retired Monday morning golf group” – where we enjoyed many good laughs, and some good golf. He was always so supportive, so caring, so genuine. He truly let the light of Christ shine in and through him. I remember John and John becoming confirmation guides for a group of rowdy boys – and how those boys were touched by their presence and love. John even got up and did the actions to one of the camp songs – which endeared him greatly to our daughters. We also enjoyed times of fellowship together – out at their lake place – playing spoons and golf. He always had a smile — and he always was able to put a smile on your face. I thank God for John – for his rich legacy of faith – blessed be his memory!

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater, MN for John E. Rausch, age 91, of Annandale. John passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta. Reverend Steve Timm will officiate. Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
John was born February 3, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN to Charles and Hilda (Bonderson) Rausch. He served in the U.S. Navy Air for two years during WWII. He married Joan Sanzenback on August 30, 1947 at Grace Covenant United Brethren Church in northeast Minneapolis. He worked at Baxter Advertising most of his life, becoming Owner and President. At 65 he retired to his current home on Sugar Lake near Annandale.
John is survived by his wife of 69 years Joan, children Charlie (Judy) of Red Wing, Susan (Ray) Hanson of Montrose, Dave (Shelly) of Golden Valley, grandchildren Marie, Michelle, Jon, Katie, Tony, and Anna, great grandchildren Henry, Charlotte and Josephine.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Kenneth and one infant grandson.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
