Joseph L. Lehmeier

February 7, 1928 – January 13, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 18, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Joseph L. Lehmeier, age 87, of St. Cloud who passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at his home with family by his side. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud with full military honors.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 10:00 a.m. on Monday (CLOSED CASKET) at the Church. The VFW Post #428 will pray at 6:00 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Joe was born on February 7, 1928 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Joseph Jacob and Alma (Reichert) Lehmeier. He served honorably in the United States Navy during WWII. Joe married Rita R. Orth on October 13, 1949 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. He worked in both sales and delivery for Gene’s Tire Service for 38 years. He was a member of the St. Cloud VFW Granite Post #428, Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428, and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and woodworking. He was a strong family man and always treasured all the time spent with them.

Joe is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Gerald (LuAnn), Robert (Eileen), Susan (Dan Johnson) Walters, Leroy (Luie) Lehmeier, and Mary (Kevin) Mohs all of the St. Cloud area; 13 grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren; sister, Carol Stip of St. Cloud; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Joseph, James, Patrick; grandson, Jamie; sisters, Irene Roske, Ida Schultz, Jeanette Broda, Bernice Schraut, Annella Schwartz; and one infant brother.

A Special Thank You to the Staff of CentraCare Hospice for all the care and support given to Joe and his family during his illness.

Jenny – am so sad to hear that your Grandpa is no longer with you in this world but fond memories can be sustaining and healing- I’m sure he’d want you to press on with a skip in your step, determination, courage and hope.
