Leonore "Norie" Tucker Mahowald

August 8, 1925 – February 27, 2017

Leonore Marie Tucker was born in White Plains, NY to the late William and Leonore Tucker. She grew up with her three siblings in Rye, NY, attended the Urseline School in New Rochelle and graduated from Trinity College, Washington D.C. in 1947. She met the love of her life, Robert A Mahowald, while she was in college and he was attending West Point Military Academy. They married June 17, 1948 and for the next eight years lived in Japan, Virginia, Georgia and Indiana while Bob served in the U.S. Army. In 1956 Norie and Bob and their growing family moved to Saint Cloud and Norie devoted the next sixty years of her life to family and friends and the Saint Cloud community. She was an avid bridge player, world traveler, accomplished equestrian rider and loved to entertain in her home. Daily mass and volunteering at the hospital were a staple of her later years.

Norie is survived by her children, Robert L (Anne) Mahowald, John M (Donna Kuhl) Mahowald, Maryanne (John P) Mahowald, Margi (Jeff) Newkirk, Liz (Greg) Murray, and fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her siblings, Virginia, Helaine and Bill, and her dear niece, Norie.

The family would like to express their immense gratitude to the staff at Benedict Homes and Quiet Oaks Hospice for the loving and attentive care they provided.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 4 at 11:00 am at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedict’s Monastery, St Joseph, MN. A reception to immediately follow at the Teresa Reception Center. There will be no visitation prior to services.

Our book group discussions were richer for the sharing of Norie’s comments and we will always appreciate meeting at her beautiful homes. A lady, a wonderful hostess and she always had a kind word. I miss her. God bless her family, love Suzanna

A gracious lady- kind, gentle and loving. My lunch partner at the hospital on Mondays as we finished our volunteer work. I now am assigned to the floor where she ministered – Cardiology – so she could see her son, John. I miss her and will do my best with HER patients on second floor.
My prayers for all her Children and Grandchildren to whom I am now connected.
