LeRoy M. "Roy" Thelen

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon for LeRoy M. “Roy” Thelen, age 78, of Avon who peacefully passed away, surrounded by his family on April 6 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Reverend Blane Wasnie, OSB will officiate. Burial will take place in the St. Benedict Parish Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 10 and after 9 a.m. on Friday, all at the St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon. Parish Prayers will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

Roy was born June 14, 1935 in St. Cloud to Benedict and Lidwina (Haehn) Thelen. He married Alice Kirchner on September 5, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park and they moved to Avon in 1960. He worked in purchasing most of his career in the St. Cloud area and was also was a long-time tax preparer. He was a Charter Member and Past President of the Avon Lions and served on the Albany School Board for 30 years. He was an active member of St. Benedict’s Parish and a volunteer in the community.

Roy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards and spending time by the lake. Roy was a devoted husband and father who took great pride in his family and was very generous, caring and exceptionally proud of his children and grandchildren.

Roy is survived by his wife of 58 years Alice, children Dan (Michele) of Tucson, AZ, Chuck (Denise) of Evergreen, CO, Dave (Ann) of St. Joseph, MN and Lisa (Colin) Kagel of East Haddam, CT, nine grandchildren; Brandon, Ashley, Caitlyn, Jake, Allison, Colton, Josie, Noah and Sam, two great grandchildren; Mason and Madelyn, and siblings Vera (Larry) Poston, Tom (Judy) Thelen, Rosie Thelen, Paul (Jill Peterson) Thelen and Susie (John) Steele.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother Ben.
