Lorraine F. Ross

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in St. Stephen for Lorraine F. Ross, age 82, of St. Stephen.  Lorraine passed away September 15, 2018 at Heritage of Foley in Foley with family at her side.  Reverend Eugene Doyle will officiate.  Burial will take place in the St. Stephen’s Parish Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, September 21 and after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, both at the St. Stephen’s Parish Hall in St. Stephen.  Parish Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Parish Hall.

Lorraine was born May 16, 1936 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Carl and Angeline (Blenkush) Knettel.  She grew up on the family farm north of St. Stephen with her 10 brothers and sisters. While working in St. Cloud she met Jerry Ross.  They were married on June 9, 1959 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in St. Stephen. They moved to St. Stephen in 1965 where they made their home and raised their family.  Most of her working life was spent as a cashier for SuperValu/Byerly’s, where her lines were frequently the longest due to her welcoming personality.  She was a lifelong and active member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and Christian Mothers.

Lorraine provided many great meals for her family and welcomed many to her table without hesitation.  Lorraine was an avid sports fan, which included the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, St. Cloud Rox, St. Stephen Steves and Sartell Sabres. She spent countless hours in attendance at her children and grandchildren’s activities.  She enjoyed traveling with family and friends and was always eager to go on Jerry’s well-planned trips.  Her greatest joy came from time spent with her family. 

She is survived by her children, Michael (Dorine), of Rochester, Eileen (Jerry) Kampa, of Sartell, Timothy (Diane), of St. Cloud, John (Lori), of Sartell, Denise (Jeremy) Christie, of Sauk Rapids; grandchildren, Katie and Joe, Brian (Alex) and Michael Kampa, Shawn (Caitlin) and Brent Salner, Cassie and Ginessa, Lauren, Jackson and Teddy Christie; great-grandchildren, Caden and Reagan Salner; brothers and sisters Lavonne Smoley, Marge (Daniel) Massman, Mary Pogatschnik, Anita Roscoe, Bob Knettel, Joe (Marge) Knettel, Elaine (Mel) Majerus and Theresa (Greg) Ebnet and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Jerry (11-23-2017), sister Valeria Erickson and brother Ray Knettel.
