Roman V. Meyer

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph for Roman V. Meyer, age 87 beloved husband, father and brother of St. Joseph who passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Reverend Jerome Tupa, OSB will officiate. Burial will take place with military honors at the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday and after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the St. Joseph Parish Center Heritage Hall. Parish prayers will be 4:00 p.m. on Monday at the Heritage Hall.

Roman was born November 12, 1929 in St. Joseph, Minnesota to Max and Margaret (Sand) Meyer. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War serving from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. Roman married Dorothy C. Udermann on May 18, 1954 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell. He was employed by the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center for 28 years, retiring in 1989.

Roman was a member of the St. Joseph American Legion Post #328, Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Joseph Senior Citizens and St. Joseph’s Parish.

He volunteered for the St. Joseph Food Shelf, Home Delivered Meals and St. Benedict’s Monastery. Roman enjoyed fishing, card playing, fixing things, travel and reading western novels. He especially enjoyed vacationing in Arizona; he loved a good joke. Roman was a quiet, patient upbeat guy who loved Stearns County with all its summer beauty and winter challenges.

Roman is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Patricia Meyer and her husband, Jim Sevec of Prescott Valley, Arizona; son, Richard and his wife Monica of Sedona, Arizona; brother, Leander of St. Joseph; and sister, Marcella Roe of Grey Eagle.

Roman was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephen on October 12, 1996; brother, Cyril; and sister, Catherine Schroden.
