Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN for Lucille Olivia Vanderwerf age 78 of St. Cloud, MN who died on Sunday, December 11, 2011, at the Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud, MN. The Reverend Thomas Knoblach will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in St. Cloud.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. St. Anthony’s Parish Prayers will be at 6:00 PM and V.F.W. Post 428 Auxiliary of St. Cloud will pray at 6:30 PM on Wednesday at Daniel Funeral Home.

Lucille was born on March 19, 1933 at Belle River, MN, the daughter of Luke and Angela (Pasch) Sizer. She grew up in Belle River where she attended school. On September 16, 1950, she was united in marriage to James R. Vanderwerf at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria, MN. Four children were born to this union. They then lived in Redwood Falls, MN before moving to St. Cloud in 1953. She worked 23 years for Armour Dial and later had a Day Care that she operated until 1998 when she retired. She continued to make her home in St. Cloud and became a resident of the Talahi Care Center in 2008. This has been her home since that time.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post 428 Auxiliary where she was a life member.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James on March 25, 1982, one son James, Jr., one daughter, Linda, four brothers, William, Glen, Scyril, and Donald, three sisters, Irene, Peggy, and Edith.

She is survived by, two sons, Roger (Debra) of Wyoming, MN, and Kevin (Mary) of St. Cloud, MN, one daughter-in-law Patricia Vanderwerf of St. Cloud, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, one sister Iona Anderson of Apple Valley, MN and one brother, George Sizer of Backus, MN, other relatives and many friends.

Lucille’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Talahi Care Center for their love, care, and compassion, given to our mother and grandmother, during her journey with Dementia/Alzheimer. We greatly appreciate it.
