A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN for Arthur Anthony Sakry, age 100, of St. Cloud. He died on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the St. Cloud V.A. Medical Center. The Reverend LeRoy Scheierl will be the celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
Art was born on June 29, 1922 in Richmond, MN the son of John P. and Elizabeth (Eiynck) Sakry. He attended school in St. Cloud and was inducted into the U.S. Army on Nov. 25, 1942. He drove trucks for the Army in the European Theatre of Operation, receiving a Purple Heart on February 28, 1945. He was Honorably Discharged on May 17, 1945 and returned to St. Cloud.
He was married on June 27, 1953 to Delphine Dritz at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. They made their home in St. Cloud and Art worked as a Cook at the V.A. Hospital in St. Cloud until his retirement in 1981. After Delphine died in 1992, Art continued to make his home in St. Cloud.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud.
He is survived by; one brother John (Marian) Sakry of Maple Grove, MN; one sister-in-law Marjorie Sakry of Pipestone, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by; five brothers and sisters, Evelyn Thyen, Irene Hoye, and George, James and Donald Sakry.
