Bennett G. Lyftogt

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell, MN, for Bennett Gene Lyftogt, age 74 of Sartell who died on April 20, 2013 in Phoenix, AZ. The Rev. Tim Baltes will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be on Monday May 13, 2013 in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.

Bennett was born on January 13, 1939 in Orange City, Iowa the son of John and Anna (Blom) Lyftogt. He grew-up on a farm near Newkirk, IA, and attended school there, graduating from high school in 1956. He then attended Northwestern College in Orange City for two years before going on to attend and graduate in 1960 from University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD with an accounting degree. He then was employed by the Defense Department as an auditor in Twin Cities.

On July 20, 1963 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Moosbrugger at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN. Two children were born to this union. The family then made their home in Bloomington, MN. Bennett continued as an auditor and CPA for the Defense Department a career that lasted 36 years. He retired in January of 1996. They then moved to their lake home on Lake Francis near South Haven, MN and moved to Sartell, MN in 2005. This has been his home since that time.

In his retirement he and Carolyn traveled the world. They also spent winters at their second home in Phoenix, Arizona where he golfed daily. He also enjoyed watching sports and fishing with family and friends.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and also a member of Bishop Trobec Council 5276 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus both of Sartell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of near 50 years, Carolyn of Sartell, MN, Two children, Debra Boylan of Austin, TX, and Michael Lyftogt of Golden Valley, MN, Three brothers and sisters, Thelma Parks of Springfield, MO, Jay (Ruth) Lyftogt of Orange City, IA, and Mark (Vicki) Lyftogt of Salinas, CA, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
