I was incredibly nervous. It was about twenty minutes after I had just gone on-the-air for the first time on WFIN(AM) in Findlay, Ohio, on Saturday, August 31, 1974, at 5PM. Right after The Spanish Hour with Tony Sanchez! The studio telephone rang, and I answered it. OMG! It was Clyde Johnson, the General Manager, calling. He said to me, “Bill, you are doing great! Keep it up! You are going to work out just fine.” Words have not yet been invented that adequately express what that call meant to me. I went on to work for Clyde on and off (most of the time I was away at college) from 1974 through 1979. He was a fair minded and good man for whom to work. Yes, that says it all. He was a good man.
We remained friends into his 90s, and I was very saddened when I heard of his passing. My condolences to Betty and the entire Johnson Family. I am sorry that I could not make it to St. Cloud for Clyde’s service.
