Although I didn’t know Dolores well, I always enjoyed spending time with her at celebrations at the Combs’ house. The photo tribute is lovely – now I feel like I know her better! Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park for Delores M. Kemper, 82 of Waite Park who died Saturday, September 8 at St. Benedict’s Senior Community Center in St. Cloud. Reverend Bernard Gruenes will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s parish cemetery.
Friends may call between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. The Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428 Ladies Auxiliary will pray at 6:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Delores was born on December 19, 1924 in Richmond, Minnesota to George and Susanna (Wengler) Schmidt. She married Leander H. “Lee” Kemper on October 14, 1946 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. Delores resided in Waite Park since 1953. She was a Tupperware dealer for 10 years. Delores also worked at McKinley School in Waite Park from 1969-1978 and later at the St. Cloud Hospital and the VA Medical Center until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of St. Joseph’s parish and Christian Women, Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Aid for over 60 years, Waite Park Women of the Moose #417, Waite Park Senior Citizens and Boosters, and past president of the Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428 Ladies Auxiliary.
Delores enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, especially 500 and Solo. She was also an avid Twins fan.
Delores is survived by her children, Sue Andersen, Randy (Sharon) Kemper, Mark (LeAnn) Kemper all of St. Cloud, Yvonne (Don) Combs of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Chad and Ryan Andersen, David and Ben Kemper, Mike and John Combs; two great grandchildren, O’Shea and Dayton Andersen; brothers, Jerry Schmidt of Melrose, LuVern (Adrienne) Schmidt of Arizona; sister, Angie (LeRoy) Thyen of Hastings; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Schmidt of Richmond.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee in 1973; brother, Julius; brothers and sisters-in-law, Madeline Schmidt, Leona (Ambrose) Heying and Severin (Lidwina) Kemper.
Delores was loving, thoughtful and fun to be with. Her family and friends were extremely important to her. Delores will be greatly missed.
A special thank you is given to the staff at St. Benedict’s Center, especially the first floor, Sub-Acute Unit and the Physical/Occupational Therapy Department.
