You maybe missed here on earth but you are at home with the lord now
Leo David Heck
September 3, 1939 – November 30, 2024
Leo David Heck (85) of Avon, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, following long-term care at Edenbrook of St. Cloud. Leo was born on September 3, 1939, in Belfield, ND to David and Kathryn (Walter) Heck. He grew up helping out on the family farm. Polka music was a standard fixture in the household, often led by his father with a concertina.
Leo met his beloved wife Kathleen (Honeymann) Heck on a double date with his brother Leonard and Kathy’s friend Betty. They got married on April 28, 1964, and were happily married for more than 60 years.
Leo proudly served for four years in the United States Navy, where he was stationed on the USS Midway, now a museum ship in San Diego, California. His time in the Navy was a source of great pride and fond memories. Following his military service, Leo learned the sheet metal trade, with jobs in Dickinson, ND and Huron, SD. A job in St. Cloud brought Leo and his young family to Minnesota in 1969. Leo was a loyal employee at McDowall Company for 32 years, known for his skill and dedication. He was also a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers union Local #10. Leo was an avid bowler and participated on the company bowling team for many years, continuing in the senior league during his retirement.
Leo was an active member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Collegeville, MN. He loved his community and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever, from refurbishing parish chairs to volunteering at the local food pantry. In his free time, he took up the hobby of metal detecting around area fields and shorelines. One of his favorite finds was a small religious statue, prompting him to proclaim, “I found Jesus!”
Leo is survived by his wife, Kathy, and his four children, Russ, Ron, Pam (Martin) Arlt and Janel. He is also remembered by his siblings, Rita (Joe) Plegge, Josie (Bob) Stockert, and David (Bernadette) Heck, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Leonard (Betty) Heck and Tom (Selma) Heck, and his sister Clementine (Stan) Wyman.
Leo will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family and friends take comfort in the memories of his kindness, humor, and unwavering support. A celebration of Leo’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed in Leo’s memory to any local food pantry. The family wishes to thank the staff at Edenbrook and Moments Hospice.
