Richard J. Hannig

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell for Richard J. Hannig, 92, of Sartell and formerly of St. Cloud who passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at his home. Reverend Ronald Weyrens will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in St. Cloud.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the St. Francis Xavier Gathering Space in Sartell. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Gathering Space.

Richard was born Sept 22, 1930 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to John and Margaret (O’Rourke) Hannig. After graduating from Cathedral High School in 1948, Rich served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Rich married Jeanette (Rooney) Jan 30, 1959, and celebrated their 63th anniversary in 2022. Rich worked at DeZurik for 30 years. He was a longtime member of St. Augustine’s Church, working the men’s breakfast and singing in the choir. Rich was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #961, St. Francis Xavier Parish and volunteered at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center for over 20 years.

He enjoyed spending time in the garden, reading on quiet afternoons with his wife, and sharing a laugh with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette (Jan) Hannig; children, Mary Williams, Tom Hannig, Brian Hannig and Danita McDowall; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark (Julio) Hannig; and son-in-law, Mark (Carlos) Williams; sister, Donna Henry; and brother, Donald.
