Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park for Sylvan J. Spychala, age 85, of Waite Park, who died Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Good Shepherd Community in Sauk Rapids. Burial will take place in the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery in Waite Park with full military honors.

Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Monday (TODAY) and after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. The Waite Park American Legion Post 428 ritual will be at 6:15 p.m. followed by the V.F.W. Post 428 ritual at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Sylvan was born April 21, 1922 in Waite Park, MN to John and Stella (Jarosch) Spychala. He married Dolores Prow on April 20, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was employed by Cold Spring Granite for 40 years and retired in 1992. He then worked for Monumental Sales until 2000. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post 428 and V.F.W. Post 428.

Sylvan is survived by his children Daniel of Cold Spring, Russel (Cindy) of St. Joseph, Pamela (Brian) Thickpenny of Monticello, Jeffrey (Laure Rosty) of Sauk Rapids and Kay (Sam) Mayahi of Saginaw, TX, 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and sister Patricia Surowski of St. Cloud.

Preceding him in death are his parents, wife Dolores (2004), son David (1959), sisters Angie and Evelyn and brothers Joseph, William and John, Jr.
