Vivian L. Murphy

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Vivian L. Murphy, 92 of St. Cloud will be at 12 noon on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at St. Benedict Senior Community Center Chapel in St. Cloud. Vivian passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. Burial with military honors will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Benedict’s Center Chapel. Arrangements are with Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud.

Vivian was born on December 26, 1921 in Genola, Minnesota to William and Agnes (Stumpf) Poster. After graduating from the University of Minnesota and the St. Cloud School of Nursing, Vivian proudly served in the US Army during WWII as a surgical nurse in Europe. She married John P. Murphy on February 14, 1951 and resided in St. Cloud. In addition to caring for her husband and six daughters, Vivian was employed as a nurse for the Foley school system for 27 years. Vivian led a future nurses club in Foley encouraging students to go on to nursing school. After retiring she volunteered with the Red Cross, as an AFES, volunteer-assisting military families with connecting with loved ones during a crisis. Vivian was an active member of the AAUW (American Association of University Women), the St. Cloud School of Nursing Alumni and served as a member on the Council of Aging.

Vivian will be remembered as a warm, loving mother and grandmother who spent her life helping others.

She is survived by her daughters, Kati Bauerly of Sauk Rapids, Christianne Murphy of Bonita Springs, FL, Mary Bird of Shakopee, K. Terese Murphy of Ham Lake, Patricia Murphy and Meggin Murphy both of Maplewood; grandchildren Amelia, Ross and Keely Bauerly and James Bird; great grandson Aedian Bird.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; two infant sons, John and Pat; infant grandson, John Leo Bauerly; two brothers; and two sisters.

Vivian’s family extends a special thank you to the St. Cloud Hospital ER and the staff on 5 North and also the staff of the VA Medical Center Hospice. They provided amazing care and support to our mother and our family.
