Arlan E. Schlagel

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Arlan E. Schlagel, 82, of Clearwater will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Clearwater.  Arlan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.  Reverend Raymond Monsour will officiate.  Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.  Arrangements are with Daniel Funeral Home, Clearwater.

 

Arlan was born on April 24, 1939 in Baldwin, Wisconsin to Bill and DeLores (Hurley) Schlagel.  He graduated from Kimball High School in 1956 and served in the US Navy from 1956 to 1960.  He married Viola Eikmeier on June 29, 1963 in Rockville. Arlan was employed by the St. Cloud Daily Times where he became City Editor then joined the Associated Press becoming Regional Membership Executive for five midwest states.  He was named top sales AP Executive two years in a row. After which he became manager of KCLD in St. Cloud for Leighton Enterprises. He went into partnership with Gary Manea as owners of Landmark Financial Agency until Gary’s untimely death in 2007.  Arlan was a member of St. Luke’s Parish.

Arlan enjoyed woodworking, radio-controlled model airplanes, semi-pro bowling, fishing, hunting, dancing, reading and travelling with his wife and pets to Alaska and the continental US.

 

He is survived by his wife, Vi, of almost 58 years; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sandra Burton and Sharron Schlagel; brother-in-law, Duane Burton; nephew, Al Schlien and his son, Dustin Schlien.

 

Memorials are preferred to the Humane Society.
