Caroline "Carrie" Nelson

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at Atonement Lutheran Church in St. Cloud for Caroline “Carrie” Nelson, age 87 of St. Cloud who passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids. Reverend John Gabrielson will officiate. Interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.

Carrie was born December 4, 1934 in Conrad, Iowa to Glenn and Neta (Harris)  Aswegan. She graduated from Decorah High School.  She enjoyed participating in school plays, art classes, roller skating, and bowling, winning an Iowa State Bowling Championship.

Carrie married David E. Nelson on June 27, 1954 in Decorah, Iowa. After raising four children she graduated from St. Cloud State College, enjoyed a career in Human Resources, founded a not for profit that provided food and clothing to at-risk school children, and was dedicated to her stewardship and leadership at Atonement Lutheran Church in St. Cloud.

In her retirement Carrie enjoyed babysitting grandchildren, hardanger, crochet and many travels with David.

Survivors include her sons and daughters, Mike (Kate) of Little Falls, Larry (Peggy) of Grand Rapids, Carol Nelson (Nancy Speir) of Madison, Wisconsin and Mary (Doug) Dombrovski of St. Cloud; eight grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; sisters and brother, Peggy Packett, Lorena Krummenoehl (Dave), Derinda Aswegan, Jean Frazer (Michael), Neta Kisner (Robert), Robert (Barb) Aswegan.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David in 2010; and brothers Lyle, Emil, and Richard.
