Doris was undeniably the adored matriarch of the Brand family. Supported and cherished by the love of her life, James, she was devoted to her family, always putting others ahead of herself.

She loved nothing better than getting in the car with her "Jimmy" and exploring new parts of the country. They were truly starry-eyed about each other. This deep love was the base from which the family stability flourished.

Doris’s generous spirit came through in her communication with anyone.  She was deeply interested and delighted to hear stories about others, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was completely non-judgmental and supportive, sharing her children’s successes and travails with an even keel. She prayed for peace and love in the family daily, with good result, as the children stay close to each other.

An organized woman, she took joy in each task of her life and did them with love and purpose.

She continually delighted family and friends with charming comments, all of which are treasured by her grateful family.

Doris M. Brand was born to Elsie and Earl Morris October 6, 1924 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was adopted one year later by William and Rose LaPlant in New Ulm, Minnesota, where she grew up.

After graduating from Holy Trinity High School, she worked 14 months in Chicago for the British Inspection Board (warriors). Later she worked in the office of Char-Gale Manufacturing, a defense plant during the war, then at the Minnesota Employment Office, both in St. Cloud. She later worked in the Treasurer’s Office for Benton County.

She married James E. Brand on March 30, 1948 in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman, Minnesota.

Doris was a homemaker who enjoyed music, dancing, traveling with James, entertaining friends and family.

She is survived by her children: Michael (Peggy), East Lansing, MI; Morris (Michele), Greensburg, PA; Renee (Chris) Fauset, Flagstaff, AZ; Bill, St. Joseph, MN; Cheryl (Fran) Drinkwine, New Knoxville, OH; Gregory (Darlene), Little Falls, MN; Thomas (Vickie), Falcon Heights, MN; Keith, Washington D.C.; Scott (Dawn), St. Cloud, MN; 19 grandchildren, two step-grandsons, and 19 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James, in 2012, an infant son in 1963, a daughter, Michelle (Gary) Wilson in 2014, her parents, and her brother, Don Morris, in 2013.

So very sorry for your loss. Doris was a special lady. Our connection was through mom but it was our pleasure to pick up the thread after mom passed away. We will miss our visits. “As the Lord welcomes your loved
one home to perfect peace,
may He also comfort you and
lead you through your sorrow” (taken from a “Going Home” card).

Doris will always be remembered as a sweet person that always wanted to hear about our children. She and Jim had many good memories with Ron’s parents. Our deepest sympathy to her family.

So sorry to hear about Doris. My sisters and I loved visiting with Doris. She always remembered all of our family and in laws. Doris was a sweetheart.

So sorry to hear of Doris’ passing. My sisters and I enjoyed our visits with her so much. She was a beautiful, gracious lady who will be missed. Thinking of all those wonderful souls in heaven watching over us!

Our sympathy to the Brand family. We had the pleasure of visiting with Doris several times throughout the years. She was so pleasant. Loved visiting with her!

Our prayers and sympathies to her family. Doris was always a gracious presence at our family gatherings.

My sympathies to Bill and the rest of the Brand family. Doris prayed for her family while here on Earth, now she is smiling down on you from Heaven, next to the love of her life.

I always loved visiting with Doris every chance I could. She would always remember every detail about me and she would ask thoughtful questions. Not to mention she always had the best baked goods! She always supported me and even recorded a graduation video for me when I graduated college this past spring. I will miss her in more ways than I can describe, but it is comforting knowing that she is in heaven, free of pain, and reunited with Jimmy. I know I will see her again and am so thankful to have her watching over me.

What a beautiful woman inside and out. We welcomed her as a neighbor and friend and she was one of the finest. I can imagine what a great reunion heaven had on March 07. Everything written in her obituary was soooooooooo true. We have many wonderful memories of Doris and will always cherish them. Her family was always in her thoughts and you can be assured she loved you all. Our family cherished her always, especially our granddaughter Allyson who had such a great and loving relationship with her. Rest in peace Doris.

Aunt Doris was one of the family favorites! (That’s saying something when you look at all of us!) She was truly one of the sweetest and nicest people I know. It was always so fun to visit her and “have a little lunch, and perhaps a beer?” We make her Chicken ala King recipe often. Wish we could be there on Monday, but we cannot. Know that I am giving you all my love and big hugs. Peace, Rusty (Jeanine)

Your mother was a wonderful person. Her birth mother was also a wonderful person.
I could tell you great stories about my aunt Elsie. If any of you get to New Ulm, stop by and we can share many great stories. Please accept my sympathy.

Sending my condolences to all of the Brand family. She was a lovely woman!
