Ed was born March 24, 1935 in St. Cloud   to Henry P. “Harry” and Ethel (Bolz) Roos. He graduated from Tech High School in 1953 and St. John’s University in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and received a Master of Science Degree from   St Cloud State University.  From 1957 to 1959, he   was a commissioned officer in US Army stationed at Fort Benning, GA and Fort Knox, KY.  Upon his discharge, he moved to Richmond, Michigan to begin his career as a government and economics teacher and junior high school guidance counselor.  In 1963, he returned to St. Cloud as a social science teacher and counselor at Tech.  As part of his duties, Ed enjoyed coaching both football and wrestling.  Ed met June Abate   at Tech and they were married on June 29, 1968 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  When Apollo High School opened in 1970, Ed began working as a counselor and guidance director assuming the role of principal in 1997 until his retirement in 2000.

Ed was a member of the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals and in 1993 was the charter recipient of the Outstanding Educator of the Year award by the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce.

Ed enjoyed outside activities, sports, golfing, and attending his grandchildren’s events.  He had a quick wit and keen sense of humor and lived his life with happiness, joy and optimism.  He was devoted to family   and will be remembered for his sensitive heart, generosity, kindness, and selflessness.

June and family, we are very sorry for the loss of Ed. We knew him at Apollo and later as neighbors to the Hughes family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Ed was a resident at our Memory Care in Plymouth, MN. Ed has the gentlest, selfless, and kindest disposition in life. He generously offered to others whatever was in his hands. Our thoughts and prayers to June and Ed’s family.

Ed was my dads best friend from high school until my dads passing. He was one of the most kind and giving man I ever met and was a true role model you could admire. God bless Ed and his family and I am sure he and dad are golfing againi

We share the sadness of June and Ed’s family. And we also celebrate the life of a good and gentle man. Ed surely found his place in counseling both students and fellow faculty. His kindness was a lasting blessing to so many who knew and cared for him.

I first met Mr. Roos in 1965 at St Cloud Tech, he was my counselor and later when his son Tommy and my son Ross played hockey together. We spent many evenings sitting on the cold belchers in cold arenas talking and laughing. He once told me after Tommy slammed and broke his stick that he wished Tommy had taken up swimming because all he would have to buy is a swim suite and jock.
He was kind, thoughtful and very funny with a dry sense on humor.
I am proud to have know and spent time with him and his family.

Ed was in my sisters’ class, at Tech. He was always friendly and kind, even playing Golf. He will be truly missed. Joel Ampe
