Funeral services celebrating the life of John W. Nixon, 73, of Clearwater will be at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Daniel Funeral Home Chapel in Clearwater. John passed away peacefully, with children by his side, on Monday, September 13, 2021 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Military honors will be provided by the Clearwater American Legion. Following the service, refreshments and fellowship will be held at the Clearwater Legion. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton.
Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in Clearwater.
John was born on December 26, 1947 in Tyler, Minnesota to Floyd “Chub” and Bethlyn (Herron) Nixon. He graduated from Balaton High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. John served as a volunteer service officer with the St. Cloud VA for many years, garnering awards including the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. He was a member of the Clearwater American Legion, serving twice as the Commander, and as the 10th District Commander.
John enjoyed nature and he was an avid outdoorsman. His home was filled with windows where he watched the wild life and the seasons pass. John treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Marnie Nixon (Chad Burt) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Michael Nixon (Jackie Kolbinger) of Becker, Minnesota, and grandchildren, Ella and Elijah Burt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jim and Mary Nixon.

Marnie and Mike you have my sympathy. We had many family holidays together. We talk of the often. John and I were the same age so we had lots in common. So grateful for him serving in the military.
