Marilyn R. Hurrle

December 30, 1938 – December 31, 2021

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022, at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in St. Augusta for Marilyn Rose Hurrle, age 83, of St. Augusta.  Marilyn passed away peacefully on December 31, 2021, surrounded by her family.  Reverend Matthew Crane will officiate.  Entombment will take place in the parish mausoleum following the Mass.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, and after 9:30 a.m. on Friday, both at St. Mary Help of Christians Parish Center.

Marilyn was born December 30, 1938, in the St. Cloud Hospital, to Raymond and Florence (Beumer) Schill. She was raised on the family farm in St. Augusta and attended St. Mary Help of Christians School until 8th grade.  She graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School in 1956. She married Francis “Penny” Hurrle on September 5, 1960, at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. They shared their 60th anniversary on September 5, 2020.  Marilyn worked briefly for A.C. Petters Sand and Gravel Company before becoming a fulltime homemaker.  She never retired from this position.  She was active in the community and a lifelong member of St. Mary Help of Christians Parish and Welcoming Committee, St. Ann’s Christian Women, St. Augusta Lions Club and Catholic United Financial.

Marilyn was a loving homemaker, providing for her family with her exceptional gardening, canning and sewing. She really enjoyed writing and participated in five parish cookbooks, three local history books and family history books. Marilyn loved the times at the cabin with family and friends; especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  After raising her five children, she returned to working part time outside the home.  Marilyn worked for Schill Trucking (Family Business), the Chip Shoppe, was an Election Judge, and McDonald’s. This was as much a social event as it was more income to support.  She was our Social Butterfly!

Marilyn is survived by her children, LeeAnn (Joel) Nelson, Janelle Ahlert, Todd (Geralyn) Hurrle, Jerry (Kim) Hurrle, and Dale (Amy) Hurrle; 14 grandchildren, Jake (Marta) Nelson, Laura (Rob) Dunlap, Aunie (Jay) Hall, Mariah and Monica Ahlert, Ryan (Stefanie), Samantha, and Heidi Hurrle, Mitchell, Stacy, and Stephanie Hurrle, and Sophia Hurrle; 6 great-grandchildren, Tristan and Tate Hurrle, Brody and Elise Dunlap, Rowan and Grace Hall; and brothers, Myron (Renee) and Larry (Jayne) Schill.

Marilyn was preceded in-death by her husband, Penny; her parents, Raymond and Florence; son-in-law, Jeff Ahlert; grandsons, Matthew and Michael Hurrle; siblings/in-laws, Shirley (Steve) Kirchner, Kenny (Lenora “Lenny”) Schill, Melroy Schill; nephew, Danny Schill; and niece, Pam Schill.

The family would like to thank the Monticello Hospital staff for their tender care and support.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church for Sound System Upgrades.

Livestreaming is available through St. Mary Help of Christians Facebook page.

My sincere sympathy to all of the Hurrle family! I have known Marilyn all my life and did her hair for many years. We had many great visits and I thought the world of her! My last visit with her was on December 8. That day when she left, we hugged and I told her I loved her. I never dreamed that would be our final goodbye. I always told Marilyn that she was the light of St. Augusta and it would never be the same without her! I still believe that. I did not attend her funeral as I avoid big crowds of people because of the Covid spread. Thinking of you during this difficult time. I will always miss Marilyn!
