Gustave E. "Gus or Buster" Erickson

August 12, 1927 – October 7, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Gustave E. “Gus or Buster” Erickson, age 89, of Waite Park, who passed away with his wife by his side, on Friday, October 7, 2016, at Chateau Waters in Sartell. Reverend Thomas Knoblach and Reverend Ralph Zimmerman will officiate. Burial with military honors will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls at 2:00 p.m.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Church. Parish prayers will be held at 6:00 p.m. followed immediately by the Knights of Columbus on Monday at the funeral home.

Gustave was born on August 12, 1927 in Burtrum, Minnesota to Gustave and Julie (Walker) Erickson. He served honorably in the United Sates Navy during World War II. He married Rosemary Scherping on July 3, 1976, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Gustave worked as a barber in Waite Park for many years before he worked as an Engineer for School District 742. He was a member of the St. Cloud V.F.W. Granite Post #428, the Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus Council #5548.

Gustave enjoyed fishing, wood working and crafts, puzzles, and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie; sisters and brother, Helen (Lew) Storkamp of Paynesville, Betty Czech of Holdingford, and Willard (Shirley) Lawrence of Winter Springs, Florida; mother-in-law Bernice Scherping; sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws in Central Minnesota; many nieces and nephews; extended relatives and friends.

Gustave was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty Joy (Ellefson); brother and sister, Robert Lawrence and Leona Marty; father-in-law, Edward Scherping; and Steve and Dorothy Ellefson.

A Special Thank You to the Staff at St. Cloud Hospital and Chateau Waters for the care given to Gus during his stay.
