August 8, 1937 – March 29, 2013

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Marianne J. Nies, age 75, of St. Cloud. Marianne passed away of Alzheimer’s on March 29 at the Country Manor in Sartell with family at her side. Burial will take place in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish Prayers will be at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Marianne was born August 8, 1937 in St. Cloud to Alois and Catherine (Tigges) Lenger. Marianne graduated from Cathedral High School in 1955 and worked at Fandel’s Department Store until August 25, 1956 when she married Wilbert “Bert” Nies at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. She accompanied Bert to England to finish his tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force. Marianne worked for Herberger’s Department Store, Langers Women’s Apparel and McDonald’s East Side St. Cloud until she retired.
Marianne was passionate about spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, loved to play Yahtzee, was an amazing cook, and her family will all miss her delicious caramel rolls. Marianne loved her many trips out west and enjoyed playing the slots at casinos.
Marianne is survived by her husband Bert of St. Cloud, son Tom (Dianne) Nies of Waite Park, daughter Mary Levine of Bloomington, grandchildren Tanya (Keith) Benoit of Sauk Rapids, Tammy (Jason) Kapsner of Bloomington, Josh (Chess) Levine of North Bethesda, MD, Ben Levine, Drake University, Des Moines, IA and great grandchildren Morgan, Ava, Alexandra, Avery and Isaac.
Marianne was preceded in death by her father Alois (1972), mother Catherine (1984), brothers Joseph (1988), John (1998), Roman (2007), infant grandson Chad Nies (1979) and son-in-law Joel Levine (2006).
The family especially would like to thank the caregivers at Country Manor Nursing Home for the exceptional care they provided Marianne in her last few weeks.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
