Eugene F. "Dutch" Gohman

October 2, 1922 – April 11, 2010

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Eugene F. “Dutch” Gohman, 87, of St. Cloud will be at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Eugene passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. Rev. Eberhard Schefers will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Family and friends may call between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church. The Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428 will pray at 6:00 p.m. followed by the St. Cloud V.F.W. Granite Post #428 at 6:30 p.m. and parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Eugene was born on October 2, 1922 in Clear Lake, Minnesota to Albert and Anna (Nelson) Gohman. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) planting trees in the Itasca State Park area. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater and during the Battle of the Bulge. Upon returning, he served in the Army Reserves for 15 years. He married Lorraine B. Schreifels on April 29, 1947 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Eugene was employed at the VA Medical Center for 35 years, retiring in 1980. After retirement, he became a volunteer at the St. Cloud Hospital for 22 years. He was member of St. Peter’s Parish, a life member of the St. Cloud V.F.W. #428, 63 year member of the Waite Park American Legion #428 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).

Eugene enjoyed camping, fishing and being with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his 28 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine of St. Cloud; children, Hilda Johnson (Harvey) of Florida, Linda Staneart of St. Cloud, Diane Stanger of St. Cloud, Eugene Jr. (Donna) of Idaho, Kevin (Annette) of Arizona, Karen Jordahl of St. Cloud, Debborah Berg of Sartell, James of Florida, Judith Thoele (Randolph Lee) of Sartell, Jeff of Lake City, Lora Gohman of St. Cloud, Michael of Waite Park, Brian (Kathy) of St. Joseph, Scott of St. Cloud; and sisters, Florence Worden of Kimball, Hilda Ayer (Myron) of Sartell.

He was preceded in death by his children; Lori Jean and LaRenia Wallace; granddaughters, LeeAnn Johnson and Jadie Stanger; four sisters and two brothers.

Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.

I CAN SEE IT ON HIS FACE. BUT WE THINK OF YOU OFTEN.WE LOVE AND MISS YOU. YOU ARE IN OUR HEARTS MINDS FOR EVER.

So very sorry for your loss. Gene was a very kind man, and was great fun to work with at the hospital! He will be missed!

I WILL MISS HIM.HE WAS A VERY NICE MAN,I WILL MISS HIS SMILE,AND I DO KNOW HE WAS A GOOD FARTHER,HE RAISED 16 CHILDREN.AND I KNOW HE RAISED THEM RIGHT CAUSE THE BOYS HE RAISED TURNED INTO POLITE MEN,AND THE GIRLS INTO WOMEN.I KNOW OUR BOYS WILL GROW UP TO BE THE MAN THERE GRANDPA RAISED.YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART AND LIFE.YOU HAVE DONE A LOT FORE OUR FAMILY AND I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT.

BEN SAID THIS WAS THE SADDEST DAY,CAUSE HIS GRANDFATHER PASSED AWAY AND HE DID NOT THINK HE WOULD EVER BE HAPPY AGAIN,BUT HE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HE LOVED HIS ROOT BEER. BRIAN REMEMBERS HOW GRANDPA LOVES HIS PANCAKES,AND HOW THEY WENT BOWLING AT THE VA HOSPITAL WITH GRANDPA.
