Gene E. Weideman

April 22, 1925 – July 4, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Clearwater for Gene E. Weideman, age 83 of Clearwater who passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008 at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Very Reverend Jacob Yali and Reverend Patrick Riley will concelebrate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Clearwater American Legion Post #323.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Clearwater. The Christian Women will pray a rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. and the Clearwater American Legion Post #323 at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Arrangements were by the Daniel Funeral Home, Clearwater.

Gene was born on April 22, 1925 in Shell Lake, Wisconsin to Ernest and Mable (Ingbertson) Weideman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving in the South Pacific, Philippines and the occupation forces in Japan. After serving in the military Gene farmed near Madge, Wisconsin and worked for the railroad. He was employed by Megarry Brothers and Hardrives as heavy equipment operator for 37 years, retiring in 1987. Gene was united in marriage to Virginia “Ginny” Anderson on May 9, 1959 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Clearwater. He was a member of St. Luke’s parish where he ushered, the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 49 and a 50 year member of the Clearwater American Legion Post #323.

Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, traveling, and metal work. He’ll be remembered for being a great cook, smoking fish and making his special sausage in his smokehouse.

Gene is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” of Clearwater; sister-in-law, Betty Storms of Clearwater; brother-in-law, Raymond Anderson of Little Falls and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Elmer and Wayne, two sisters, Eleanore Piotrowski and Verna Donaldson.

We are saddened to hear of Gene’s death. We will always remember Gene with great fondness for his abilities but more with love for his big heart, kindness, and compassion for his extended family. One day we will all be together again. We love you both.
