Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in St. Wendel for Marie L. Pierskalla, age 85 of Avon who passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany. Reverend Mark Stang will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Parish prayers will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Christian Women at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in St. Joseph.
Marie was born on March 18, 1923 in Avon, Minnesota to Anton and Margaret (Kosel) Korman. She married Phillip P. Pierskalla on April 6, 1941 at Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro, California. The couple farmed in Holding Township, Stearns County until 1982. Marie was a member of St. Columbkille parish and the Christian Women.
Marie was proud of her family, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was an avid baseball fan and she especially enjoyed following the St. Wendel Saints and Minnesota Twins.
Survivors include her children, Beverly (Everett) Scherping of Freeport, Gail Bias of Sauk Centre, Gary (Linda) of Freeport and Jeff (Rhonda) of Avon; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Walter of St. Cloud, Claude of Gold Canyon, Arizona, Isabelle Fabeck of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Joseph of Sartell, Art of St. Cloud, Lorene Krupa of Coon Rapids, George of Taylor, Michigan and Geraldine Bialka of Sauk Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Phillip on January 10, 2006; daughter, Joyce Fischer in 1986 and brothers, Robert, Alexander and Ray.
