Mary Evelyn Smith

July 30, 1933 – February 10, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Mary Evelyn Smith, age 74 of St. Cloud who passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at her home. Reverend Thomas Knoblach and Reverend Alfred Stangl will concelebrate. Entombment will be at the Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and after 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.

Mary was born on July 30, 1933 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Harvey and Evelyn (Fouquette) Hoffman. She married Ralph J. Smith on November 22, 1952 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Maple Lake, Minnesota. She along with her husband, Ralph owned and operated Granite City Jobbing in St. Cloud, a wholesale distribution business for 57 years. She was a member of Holy Spirit parish.

Mary enjoyed reminiscing with friends and especially valued spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her children, Michael (Joanne) of St. Cloud, Nancy (Michael) Peckskamp of Sauk Rapids, Susan (Vincent Joel) Meyer of St. Cloud, David (Robin) of St. Cloud and John of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Timothy (Nicole), Thomas and Robert Smith, Tara (Brent) Putz, Ryan and Travis Peckskamp, Amber, Ashlan and Austin Meyer, Carly Jo and Kaylin Smith; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Jorgenson of California, Sally (Dan) Reinert of Bloomington and Richard (Eloise) Smith of Litchfield, Phil (Mary Jane) McManus of Crystal and Lucille Smith of Maple Lake.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ralph on August 15, 2005.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the Poor Clares Monastery.

Aunt Mary was very special to me. I always felt a connection between us and believe she knew and loved me for who I am. My prayers are with her and uncle Ralph as they enjoy an amazing reunion with God. To their family on earth…my prayers for you too. I loved her dearly and will miss her.
