Nicholas P "Nick" Barrett
March 12, 1923 – January 25, 2008

Memorial Mass celebrating the life of Nicholas P. “Nick” Barrett, 84 of Waite Park and formerly of Mpls will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at St. Lawrence’s Catholic Church-Newman Center in Mpls. Nick passed away on Friday, Jan. 25 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. James Brucz will officiate. Inurnment with military honors will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Nick was born on March 12, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to Nicholas and Netty (Straus) Barrett. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served in North Africa, Italy and during the Normandy Invasion. Nick married Frances A. Capistrant on June 16, 1945 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He retired from Medtronic Corp. in 1985. Nick was a member of the National Association of Power Engineers and the Fridley VFW and American Legion.
One of Nick’s greatest pleasures was square dancing with the Fridley Circle Square Dancing Club. He loved to play cards and games with his grandchildren and spending time with his family at the cabin on Crane Lake.
Nick is survived by his wife, Fran of Waite Park; children, Linda (John) Strickland formerly of Mpls, Patrick (Kathy) of Georgia, Tim (Lorie) of Fridley; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and sister, Kay (Joe) Sprietzer of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Sara; one brother and two sisters.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
