Kay was born in Alexandria, MN on February 4, 1952 to Lester and Eleanor (Jensen) Nordin, the fourth of six children. She was raised on the Nordin farm in Hoffman, MN where her affinity for animals and farming began. She was a cheerleader, the only female member of the FFA, and graduated high school in 1970 as class valedictorian. She attended St. Cloud State University earning her degree in Education in 1974. She was married on August 26, 1972. Kay was the proud mother of three daughters and grandmother of six grandchildren. She shared with them her love for music, books, cooking, sewing, nature, animals, and caring for others. Kay was a loved and respected teacher at Lincoln Elementary for 23 years. She was a member of Celebration and Atonement Lutheran churches where her devotion and love for education was extended to Sunday School and Bible study.
Kay resided on her hobby farm in St. Joseph raising her horses, chickens, and kittens. Her joy came from sharing her home with her children, grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews, friends and kindergarten classes. Kay gave much of herself to her family, friends, and her profession. She will be greatly missed, but her spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Erin (Martin) Hackenmueller; Kathryn (Adam) Westman; Jilliaen Fiebelkorn; grandchildren, Jack Hackenmueller, Hannah Hackenmueller, Sonja Hackenmueller, Andrew Hackenmueller, Adeline Westman, and Claire Westman; her father Lester Nordin; her sisters, Lael Krafka; Margaret (Glen) Rey; Susan Nordin; Nancy (Michael) Kauzlarich, and David Fiebelkorn. She was preceded in death by her mother Eleanor and her brother Paul.

you will be thought of often and fondly
Sorry that I was unable to be at the funeral. I just wanted to extend my sympathy to Erin, Katie, Jill, and family.
I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.
I will always remember Kay for being as beautiful inside as she was outside and the fond memories of her visit to California.
I will always remember her dedication towards her students and how much she taught me. I hope to someday be as powerful of a teacher as she was. You and your family are in my prayers, and I will never forget such a wonderful person, teacher, or mentor.
She was one of the most amazing and dedicated teachers I ever had. I will miss her.
Katie and family – we are very sorry for the loss of your mom. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. If you need anything, please let us know.
Twenty years ago, I had the privilege of having you as my kindergarten teacher…in fact, it was you who taught me how to draw trees (which I still draw that same way)! 🙂 I remember you being such a kind, gentle and sweet woman. I can only imagine all the lives you’ve touched over the years! Thank you for teaching from your heart. My prayers are with the loved ones you left behind.
Dear Katie,
We’re so sorry to hear about your mom’s untimely death. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Katie, Jill and Erin,
My heart goes out to all three of you during this time. Your mom was so well liked, a strong woman and a great role model. She still had so much in her to teach you- my heart is sad for you!Words can’t comfort what the heart so deeply feels. You remain in my thoughts and prayers.

You made such an impact with all your students, they will carry it throughout their lives.
One of the many things that you will be remembered by in our family is the phrase that you said after a good idea, “Kiss the brain” we use it at home.

Dear family, how are you doing? I really loved Ms. Fiebelkorn, she was a really nice teacher. I liked her a lot because she was so nice to me and loved animals just like I do. She’s the best teacher ever.
