Ellen S. Held

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2007, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Ellen S. Held, 91, of St. Cloud. Ellen died peacefully on Wednesday, August 22, 2007. Reverend Anthony Oelrich will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud.

Friends may call between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. St. Augustine’s Christian Women will pray at 4:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 5:00 p.m. and the East Side VFW Post #4847 Auxiliary at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ellen was born on November 17, 1915, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, to John B. and Hulda M. (Mattson) Carlson. She graduated from Tech High School and St. Cloud Business School, then worked as bookkeeper for Pyramid Granite Works. Ellen married Aloys F. “Ollie” Held on April 26, 1949, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Augustine’s Parish and Christian Women, St. Jude’s Mission Group, and the East Side VFW Auxiliary.

Ellen enjoyed embroidery, reading, and volunteering. She loved visiting flower gardens. Our mom was especially proud of her Swedish heritage.

Ellen is survived by her children, Paula (David) Burgett of Cloquet, Rob (Barb) of St. Francis, Rick (Ellen) of New Ulm, Julie (Mark) Wilson of New Hope, and Mary Ellen Held of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Anna, Valerie, and Greta Burgett; Jessi, Robinson, and Deidre Held; Abby, Maggie, and Bernie Held; Mac and Sophie Wilson; and sister, Delphine “Della” Denney of Sauk Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ollie in 1972; and brothers, Albert, Earl, Robert, and Irwin “Bud” Carlson.
