Alma H. Skwira

December 29, 1935 – May 19, 2007

Alma H. Skwira, 71 of St. Cloud, died at home on Saturday, May 19, 2007 surrounded by her loving family after many health trials. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Upper Church with Rev. Meinrad Dindorf, OSB officiating. Inurnment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. The St. Cloud VFW Granite Post #428 Auxiliary will pray at 6:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers and the St. Anne’s Christian Women at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Alma was born on December 29, 1935 in St. Stephen, Minnesota to Frank and Angeline (Rudolph) Pierskalla. Alma was a graduate of Cathedral High School. She married Alois Skwira on May 2, 1955 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Alma retired from School District 742 nutrition services. She also was employed at Herbergers and most recently with Aria Cards. Alma was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Anne’s Christian Women and the St. Cloud VFW Post #428 Auxiliary.

Alma enjoyed her family and friends, traveling, knitting, embroidery, crocheting, fill in puzzles, playing cards and going to the casino.

Alma is survived by her six children, Lynn (Bill) Tomczik, and Ann Skwira-Wilson of St. Cloud, Jean (Jeff) Johnson of Sartell, John (Terri Boom) Skwira of St. Cloud, Kay (Bob) Burris of Fort Worth, TX; and Rita (Kurt) Surber of Severn, MD; 13 grandchildren; one great grandson; and one brother, Raymond (Irene) Pierskalla of Willmar.

She was preceded in death by her husband Al on July 16, 2004; parents; and one infant granddaughter, Alexandra Surber.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the St. Cloud Hospital Hospice, many areas at the St. Cloud Hospital, Coborn’s Cancer Center, St. Benedict’s Center Sub-Acute, Abbott Hospitalists and Dr. Julie Johnson.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
