Joan W. McMillan

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Paynesville for Joan W. McMillan, age 94, of Paynesville who died Wednesday at the Paynesville Area Hospital. Reverend Doris Dodds will officiate. Burial will take place in the Fairview Cemetery in Bismarck, ND.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday (TODAY) at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
Joan was born March 20, 1913 in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada to Frank and Grace (Brown) Storrs. She graduated from Fargo (ND) High School in 1931 and from Moorhead State Teachers College (now Moorhead State University) in 1935. Joan married Rudy Peterson in 1938. Joan was a teacher for over 21 years, having taught in many places in Minnesota, North Dakota and New Jersey. She retired from teaching in 1973. Throughout her life Joan loved music. She taught piano, was a church organist and she sang in and directed many church and community choral groups/choirs. Rudy died in 1991 after being married for over 50 years. She married Lloyd McMillan in 1993 and moved to Paynesville where she was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and a lifelong member of PEO.
Joan is survived by her husband Lloyd of Paynesville, daughter Marilyn (John) Adams of Driscoll, ND, son Michael Peterson of Cheyenne, WY, 2 grandchildren Kim (Robert) Deneault of Lincolnton, NC and David (Karlie) Adams of Denver, CO, 3 great grandchildren Lindsay and Christopher Deneault and Janie Adams.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Rudy, and two sisters Helen Oman and Erica Shermoen.
