Alphonse H. "Al" Schaefer

June 25, 1922 – February 7, 2007

A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2007 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville for Alphonse Henry “Al” Schaefer, age 84, of Paynesville, who passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Reverend Richard Leisen will officiate. Entombment will follow in the St. Louis Parish Mausoleum.

Relatives and friends may call from 3-9 p.m. on Sunday, February 11 at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville and after 10 a.m. on Monday at the church. St. Louis Knights of Columbus Council #3820, St. Louis Catholic Aid Association and Daughters of Isabella will pray at 5 p.m. followed by Parish Prayers at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Al was born June 25, 1922 in St. Martin to Henry and Mary Schaefer. He married Rosalia Braegelmann on April 30, 1946 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. They farmed near Regal until they retired in 1986. They then moved to Paynesville where he worked part time for Ferrell Gas Company. He also worked 35 years as an insurance agent and director for Paynesville Mutual Insurance Company. Al was a faithful member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Crosier Apostolate and Catholic Aid for which he was auditor.

Throughout his life Al enjoyed trapping, farming, deer hunting, fishing, card playing and spending time with family and friends.

Al is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Rose, sons and daughters Shirley (Ken) Lieser of Paynesville, John (Mary Jane) of Willmar, Mary (Don) Heinen of Roscoe, Barb (Rob) Brinkman of St. Joseph, Tim (Cindy) of Paynesville and Terry (Carol) of Paynesville, 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, brother Ed of St. Martin and sister Alma Dirks of St. Cloud.

Preceding him in death are his parents, brother Albert and sisters Zita Fuchs, Hildegard Schmitz and Helena Derichs.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
