Alfred K. "Alf" Johnson

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Alfred K. “Alf” Johnson, age 84, of St. Cloud will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2009 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Alfred died Friday, November 13, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud with his family at his side. Rev. Bernard Gruenes and Rev. Edwin Kraemer will con-celebrate. Burial with military honors will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Waite Park American Legion Post #428 at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Alfred was born on June 21, 1925 in St. Augusta Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Kenneth and Ursula (Rauch) Johnson. He married Elaine Cipala on June 19, 1951 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Holdingford. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre with the 27th Division. He lived in Central Minnesota most of his married life. He was employed as a clerk for the Burlington Northern Railroad for over 34 years. He was a member of St. Michael’s Parish, the Disabled American Veterans, Waite Park American Legion and a charter member of the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C.

Alfred is survived by his wife Elaine of St. Cloud; children, Lois Johnson (Bill Eiffert) of St. Cloud, Brian (Linda) of St. Joseph, Jeff (Jean) of Sartell, Jim of Seattle, Washington, Kurt (Camille) of Big Lake; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Margaret (Charles) Hormann of St. Cloud, Lawrence (Elaine) of Waite Park and Alice (Roger) Goenner of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters; Elmer, Ervin, Grace Latimer, Anice Bluhm and Sr. Ramona Johnson OSF.
