Almira J. Christen

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Almira J. Christen, age 86, of St. Cloud, who passed away November 22, 2010 at her home. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will take place in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls.

Relatives and friends may call from 4-9 p.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Parish Prayers will be at 5 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Almira was born September 3, 1924 in Edmore, North Dakota to Joseph and Ida (Dahl) Blais. She married John F. Christen on July 12, 1954 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. She was employed by J.C. Penny’s Department Store for 37 years and retired in 1984. She was a volunteer at Oak Hill School many years where she received the “Volunteer of the Year Award”. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her love of “mowing the grass”.

Almira is survived by her daughter Annette “Nettie” Christen of St. Cloud, special niece Mary Lou Meyer and many other nieces and nephews which she considered her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband John (2001), son Michael “Mitch” (2008), brothers Edward, Berthol, Lawrence and Francis and sisters Inez Kelsey and Lucy Stresnak and infant sister Bertha.
