Anna Smoley

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Anna Smoley, age 92, of Sartell will be at 11 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell, MN. Anna died on November 7, 2009 at the home of her daughter. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may call between 4-9 pm on Tuesday and after 10 am on Wednesday at the Gathering Space at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell. St. Monica’s Christian Women will pray at 6:30 pm on Tuesday at the Gathering Space in Sartell followed by the parish prayers at 7 pm.
Anna was born on Sept. 5, 1917 in Syracuse, NY to John and Anna (Voytasovich) Pikus. She married Arthur J. Smoley on Feb. 2, 1943 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids, MN. She was a resident of Sartell for 84 years. She was employed as the head cook for the Sartell School District 748 for many years. She was active in the Parent Teachers Association in which she served as Treasurer, a Brownie leader, volunteered at St. Francis Xavier church and school for several years and was an honorary life member of St. Monica’s Christian Women where she was a past Treasurer. She was an auxiliary member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622, auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary, St. Ann’s, St. Anthony’s and St. Elizabeth’s Mission groups.
Anna loved to bowl, play cards, shake dice, play along with Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, cook, bake and dine out with her friends. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and loved to be involved in their lives. She loved to keep the Czech holiday traditions alive with her cooking and baking.
Survivors include her children: William and his wife Gayle and Mary Jane Burton and her husband Don all of Sartell, grandchildren: Melissa Smoley, David (Molly) Burton, Kyle (Marcella) Smoley, Paul (Joani) Burton and Jeff Burton; great grandchildren: Summer Anna Burton and Lily Smoley; brothers Edward Pikus of Sauk Rapids and James (Gerry) Pikus of WI.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, granddaughter Christina brothers and sisters: Mary Davidson, John, Mike, Peter, George, Steve, Helen, Bill and Paul Pikus.
