Anselm J. "Andy" Schefers

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Anselm J. “Andy” Schefers, age 88 of St. Cloud who passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 1, 2012. Reverend Jeremy Ploof, Reverend Eberhard Schefers and Reverend Luke Steiner, OSB will officiate. Entombment will take place at the Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum, St. Cloud.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday and after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud. Parish prayers will be at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.

Andy was born May 26, 1924 in Richmond, Minnesota to John and Anna (Schlangen) Schefers. He operated a street car in St. Paul. Andy served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He married Florentine T. Schneider on May 6, 1946 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. Andy was employed as a mechanic by Tenvoorde Ford in St. Cloud. Andy and Florentine farmed together in Haven Township since 1952. He was a member of St. Augustine’s Parish, Catholic United Financial and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Andy was a great mechanic and enjoyed working on machinery, liked a good game of “500”, enjoyed fishing and hunting; he especially loved visiting with his friends and family. Andy will be greatly missed as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Andy is survived by his children, Shirley (Terry) Nystrom of Sauk Rapids, Sharon (Pat) Barthelemy of St. Cloud, Janice (Dan) Primus of St. Cloud, Janet (Cy) Pfannenstein of St. Joseph, Gerry (Cindy) of St. Cloud and Brian (Tammy) of St. Cloud; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Clara Stueve of St. Joseph, Irene Pratt of Seal Beach, California and Corbin of Van Nuys, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on April 16, 2012; grandchildren, Tammy Pfannenstein and Anthony Primus; brothers and sisters, Ermin, Norbert, Alois, Alma Buerman, Viola Wiesner, Herbert and Oswald.

A Special Thank You to the Staff of the St. Cloud Hospital Hospice for the exceptional care given to our father. Also a Special Thank You to Dr. John Mahowald of the Central Minnesota Heart Center and the Sisters of the Poor Clare Monastery.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
